The Gossip frontwoman and fellow fat femme Beth Ditto tied the knot with her longtime love Kristin Ogata on the island of Maui, in Hawaii. More accurately, they were civil unioned because gay marriage isn’t legal in Hawaii, but whatever.
The wedding had been in the works for a while, and the two have been friends for even longer than that — Ogata started as Ditto’s personal assistant. In an interview with The Advocate, Ditto spoke about their happy relationship: “We just always kind of knew that we were always in love. It’s blissful, I think. It’s really sweet and perfect. I feel like it’s like so simple that it’s a miracle. I feel like Dan and Roseanne.”
In August last year, Beth revealed that she had difficulties finding a dress, telling MusicFix: “I should design wedding dresses for fat girls because there is not enough out there.”
For the ceremony, Ditto donned a white tulle dress by Jean Paul Gaultier, and Ogata wore a white short suit with desert boots. They topped off their looks with white flower garlands, in true Hawaiian style.
Ditto took to social media to announce the nuptials, writing on Facebook, “So much love and appreciation to all of our family and friends who celebrated with us! And a huge thank you to Jean Paul Gaultier for the dream-come-true dress!”
Ditto has long been a designer darling. The songstress weighs in at a US size 26 (that’s my size, too!), a size the fashion industry typically ignores by and large, especially by high-end designers. But she has been the exception for the likes of Gaultier and Karl Lagerfeld, the creative force behind Chanel, Fendi and his own label.
Lagerfeld’s fondness of Ditto is most intriguing because the designer has often been quoted many times making fat-shaming comments like:
“No one wants to see curvy women. You’ve got fat mothers with their bags of chips sitting in front of the television and saying thin models are ugly. Fashion is about dreams and illusions.”

“The body has to be impeccable as well — that helps a lot. If it’s not, buy small sizes and eat less food.”

But the besties parted ways when Lagerfeld said, “The thing at the moment is Adele. She is a little too fat, but she has a beautiful face and a divine voice.”
