Hometown favorites abound at Crafty Supermarket

I didn’t realize just how deep Ohio pride runs until I went to Crafty Supermarket. It seemed every other artisan  at the semi-annual (and sometimes thrice annual) quirky craft fair was hawking some sort of Ohio state outline paraphernalia or Cincinnati regalia. And I couldn’t get enough. Really, it’s like all the cool people in the Midwest got together to sell all things that are good, or at least Ohio-related and/or nerdy.

Grace Dobush — Crafty Supermarket visionary and author of Crafty Superstar: Make Crafts on the Side, Earn Extra Cash and Basically Have It All — makes an Ohio-themed card among other cheeky goodies:

This Ohio pillow from Fabricate matches my Ohio tattoo:

Sarah Horn‘s ceramic tiles depict various Cincinnati landmarks, including Union TerminalMusic Hall and Eden Park:

Wholly Craft brought the mother lode of Ohio-themed crafts, including state-outline necklaces:

and state-outline soap by Stinky Bomb:

as well as state-outline felt pins, wood coasters and cutting boards:

And Tacocracy was slinging tacos under their Buckeye State emblazoned banner:

I even picked up this Skyline Chili Cincinnati 3-way patch for Beelisty by Steam Whistle Letterpress and Design:

Crafty Supermarket also had quite a few video-game-themed crafts. The first vendor to catch my eye was 1UP Gallery and these original Nintendo controller wallets:

and clocks made from original Nintendo games:

Nearby, 1337 Motif displayed their 8-bit cutting boards, including this Mario cutting board:

and Pacman cutting boards:

But my favorite thing from Crafty Supermarket was, of course, this crocheted Bender from The Snow Store:

And these revolver pocket knife necklaces by Off The Beaten Path are perfect for any utility femme:

I ended up taking home these accessories:Photo: Crafty Supermarket Spring 2013 at Clifton Cultural Arts Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. Photo source: Google Images The Haul from The Lovely Teaspoon and Emily West-Lowry Designs from Wholly Craft

And I picked up at few vegan treats, including sugar cookies and oatmeal creme pies by Sweet Peace Bakery:

All the items I bought were $10 or less, making them beautifully within my budget. Now I call that a successful supermarket trip.

    • I know! I wish I had enough money to get me some.

I find craft shows hit or miss. I’m usually impressed by artisans who do something unique or that I never could. I’m more than happy to pay a premium for something like that.

  1. Plenty has been discussed about the subject before, but theres one or two replies worth taking note of.
